MICHAEL KNIGHT ... "Lives His Life the Country Way!"
From the Piney Woods of East Texas, artist Michael Knight is well-known for his incredible vocals in both his Traditional Country and Country Gospel performances and recordings.
Michael is well known for his unique reverberating vocals in both his Traditional Country and Country Gospel performances and recordings.
Raised in the small town of Rusk, Texas, Michael's musical development began at the age of 15 by learning to play both fiddle and guitar. He proceeded to play honky tonks with Alvin Murray, the man that raised him and influenced his interest in performing.
Michael first recorded in Nashville, soon releasing his first record "Last Story" b/w "Texas" in 1983. Later in the mid 80s, several nationally released singles followed on CBT Records including "Country Way", "Say It Isn't So", and "Who You Gonna Be Tonight?". Each were in rotation at hundreds of Country radio stations and all nationally charted in the Top 10 of the independent artist charts. Although his records received significant airplay nationwide, his records were in heavy rotation on many of the Texas Country radio stations.
In addition to nationally charting records, Michael performed at many Honky Tonk clubs in Texas including Gilley's, Billy Bob's, White Elephant Saloon, Broken Spoke, Cotton Eyed Joe's, and Jitterbugs. At many of these venues and others, Michael was the opening act for major Country Music acts including Joe Stampley, Moe Bandy, Gary Stewart, Dan Seals, David Houston, Johnny Rodriguez, Mel McDaniel, Gene Watson, Dwight Yoakam, Restless Heart, Mark Chesnutt, Randy Travis, and Claude Gray.
Michael recently appeared in the movie "Nail 32" performing his self-penned song, "Country Way". Several more of Michael's recordings were used in the movie's soundtrack.
In 2015, Michael Knight's first Gospel CD album titled "Livin' The Good Life" was released to
the public and has since enjoyed considerable sales. His newest Gospel album CD is scheduled to be released in July 2016. This one will be titled
"What A Wonderful World". Plans are also underway for a Traditional Country CD of his earlier
recordings from the 80s and 90s. This CD will include four of his unreleased recordings produced in Nashville in 1996.
Michael is a regular attraction at many of the Cowboy Churches, both in the local area and out of state. Frequently performing at numerous charitable events in the East Texas area, Michael takes pride in aiding those in need of help. As all of the locals know, when it is announced that Michael Knight will be performing, a large crowd will always be present to hear his majestic vocals.
Michael currently lives in a small rural community between his hometown of Rusk, TX and Jacksonville, TX with his wonderful wife, Rhonda. Between recording sessions and performances, living here allows Michael a great amount of solitude and most certainly fits with his theme of "living his life the country way"!
